The Los Angeles Fire Department has called the incident as a “multi-patient incident,” according to CNN. Currently two are injured, including a second TSA employee who was shot in the leg, NBC News confirmed.
The shooting began at 9:30 AM PST/12:30 PM EST, LAX spokeswoman Nancy Suey Castles said. It took place at a screening station where passengers show boarding passes and IDs, Nico Melendez, spokesman for the TSA told NBC News.
The airport was put under ground stop, meaning that no planes could take off, but that has now been lifted. Passengers in the terminal were taken onto a bus and transported to a safe, smaller terminal.
While we are unaware of exactly how many people were injured, NBCNews has confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed by police.
One witness, John Forstrom has been tweeting updates as well.
“I heard a popping sound, and everybody was diving for cover,” passenger Robert Perez told the KCAL/CBS of the incident, which woke him up from a nap. “The TSA said there was a shooting in the terminal and evacuate the building. Everybody started to panic.”
Many photos have surfaced on Twitter of officers swarming the airport, as well as law enforcements being treated for injuries — one even had a bloody hand.
