ENYEAMA WINS FRANCE PLAYER AWARD FOR OCTOBER
Lille goalkeeper, Nigerian Vincent Enyeama, has claimed the Ligue 1 player of the month award for October.
The French National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) unveiled its monthly award on Friday, to be given to the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s Vincent Enyeama on Sunday at the Lille-Toulouse game.
Enyeama topped the poll at 71 percent of votes, beating Sweden and PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic who had only 19 percent, and his Uruguayan teammate Edinson Cavani on 10 percent.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper produced an impressive performance in October, helping Lille claim three consecutive league games. With the addition of two other wins in November, they were able to climb to second place in the Ligue 1 table.
Enyeama, who was out of favour over the past seasons, hasn’t conceded any goals since the team’s 2-0 home defeat against Nice in the fifth matchday on 15 September.
The goalkeeper, who was the stand-in captain of the Super Eagles was also outstanding in the qualifying series where Nigeria secured a ticket to play in next year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
