Baroness Lynda Chalker, co-chair to the Nigeria Honorary International Investors’ Council, will today continue to direct the extraordinary meeting that pools all major and prospective investors in Nigeria currently holding at the Hilton Hotel in Central London, following President Goodluck Jonathan’s sudden illness on Thursday.
Baroness Chalker had to step on the plate Thursday when the President Jonathan failed to show up as a co-chairman of the event where he had been billed to read an opening address and declare the meeting open.
The president’s spokesman, Reuben Abati, said President Jonathan fell ill while in London and had sought medical attention, “he has been advised to rest for a few days.” Mr. Abati did not state the ailment the president was diagnosed of or the hospital he visited but presidential sources in London claimed he might have picked a stomach bug at a get together put together for him on Wednesday to mark his 56thbirthday anniversary .
Last February during a London trip, Mr. Jonathan also reported sick and was treated for a stomach ailment. Earlier in the year also he could not give a scheduled address at the 50th anniversary of the African Union on account of a presumed illness.
It is unclear yet if the president will keep date with a committee of the G7 this weekend.
