REPS SUMMON POLICE IG OVER HARASMENT OF G-7 GOVERNORS


MEMBERs of the House of Representatives Tuesday mandated the House Committee on Police Affairs to summon the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar to explain the role of the police in the alleged harassment of G-7 Governors at the Kano state Government House on Sunday.

The committee is also expected to ascertain the circumstances leading to the invasion of the Kano’s Governor’s lodge by the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force under the command of a divisional Police Officer,DPO and report back to the House within two weeks.

This development was sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House under matters of National Importance by Rep Idris Kutigi, PDP, Niger state.

The motion which was signed by other 60 members and titled: ‘IMPUNITY AND DISREGARD TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA,1999 (AS AMENDED) BY THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE’.

Drama however started immediately the motion was announced on the floor of the House as the sharp division between the old bloc and new bloc PDP reared its ugly face again.


The old bloc tried to kill the motion but with the heavy support of the opposition the splinter PDP carried the day.
