ASUU FINALLY SUSPENDS STRIKE


The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), today, announced the suspension of its over 5months strike - with immediate effect.

Yesterday NigerianEYE exclusively reported that the 5 month strike strike was suspended after the ASUU NEC met at the campus of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. But it was until Tuesday morning, that the ASUU President, Dr. Nasir Fagge made the public disclosure in Minna while briefing newsmen.

The Union however suspended the strike after a marathon National Executive Committee meeting held in Minna, Niger State, yesterday, NE gathered from a source in Minna.

The different chapters of ASUU are expected to hold congress meetings on Wednesday following which academic activities will resume in the universities.

The meeting was deliberate over the agreement signed Wednesday, last week, by union executives and the federal government.

The NEC meeting, NE gathered was attended by ASUU branch chairmen and secretaries, the national executive members of the Union, coordinators and past leaders, including members from 52 universities.


Public universities lecturers have been on strike since July 1, 2013.
